"That could have been expensive" was the first thought that crossed my mind when I noticed that the fuel door had popped open as I exited the automated car wash this morning. No, I didn't make the mistake of leaving it open after I filled up.

Like many cars on the market, the 335d uses the completely insecure push-to-open fuel door mechanism. Press on the left edge of the door and it pops open, repeat to close it. With some luck, the rollers in the car wash hit the door just right and popped it open, leaving it vulnerable to damage on the next wash cycle. One more reason to not like the push-to-open design. Is it really that much cheaper than running a cable or wire?

Speaking of fuel, the 335d elicited a confusing stare from a customer at the gas station this morning as soon as it pulled up to the pump. He proceeded to stare even more intently once I reached for the diesel nozzle. It was probably the first diesel 3 Series he'd ever seen in his life, but it was also the first time someone stared at the car with that much curiosity while I'd been filling it up.
